Integrated processes. Maximum recovery.

Processing for optimum IBA recovery

REMEX is a pioneer in the processing of incinerator bottom ash (IBA) from Energy-from-Waste (EfW) plants. Our approach is based on a modular technology concept in which individual processes or technical units can be flexibly combined  – to achieve maximum recovery rates and optimum recycling quality. Depending on site requirements, quality of raw bottom ash and capacity, either mobile or stationary processing solutions are employed. Mobile plants enable flexible treatment in terms of both location and timing, whilst stationary plants and supplementary technologies serve to further improve the quality of the recovered resources.

Mobile processing

The use of a mobile recycling plant enables the recovery of metals and mineral fractions in flexible processing campaigns. Whether adjacent to a Waste-to-Energy plant, at a landfill site or any other authorised processing location: a mobile plant enables a rapid establishment of treatment capacities. The modular plant design allows for quick transport and installation, flexible deployment options and efficient recycling processes – wherever processing capacity is required.

Supplementary stationary processing

REMEX relies on stationary upgrade technologies to optimise processing results. Innovative processes such as MERIT, MTF, HMT and TRIPLE M improve the recovery of ferrous and non-ferrous metals from incineration bottom ash and the quality of mineral-based substitute construction materials. Our MERIT non-ferrous technology is unique in the market. It is particularly effective in optimising the recovery of valuable non-ferrous metals, which opens up new business models and enables us to create corresponding added value for our national and international customers. Find out more about our technologies for high-quality material cycles and maximum resource efficiency.

Well-designed components for efficient IBA recycling

REMEX pools its technological solutions for IBA treatment in a modular concept. The individual process steps involved encompass the recovery and concentration of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, as well as the production and optimisation of mineral substitute construction materials in the form of IBA aggregates.

Bottom ash processing

The main processing plant for incinerator bottom ash serves as the base module. Treatment includes the use of different sieving techniques, magnet- and eddy current separators as well as a wind sifter. At the end of this process, we end up with three fractions, i.e. ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals and the remaining mineral fraction. Depending on site and plant requirements, IBA processing can be carried out either stationary or mobile.

Ferro metal upgrade

Material coming out of the main IBA processing facility still holds a lot of impurities in terms of ash, i.e. up to 70 %. This is why the material undergoes special treatment in our ferrous upgrading facility. The main purpose of this upgrading facility is to remove ash adhesions in order to achieve purer ferrous concentrates..

IBA aggregate upgrade

In order to improve the quality of mineral ash for use as construction material and open up new areas of application, we further treat the ash. Currently, this includes hydro-mechanical treatment HMT and the 3D sieving technology TRIPLE M.

Non-Ferro metal treatment

By means of our own upgrading facility MTF (Metal Treatment Facility), we are now able to independently purify and sort non-ferrous metals coming out of the central processing plant. Through this process, we obtain pure non-ferrous concentrates, including pure aluminium, pure heavy metals such as copper, and even precious metals. These concentrates can be directly used by smelting plants.

MERIT for Non-Ferro metal recovery

MERIT stands for Metal Recovery Intelligence. It has been developed by our technical department. Its use is decisive for significantly higher recovery of non-ferrous metals. Technically, it’s based on an air-sifting technology. Through its use, we can separate the fraction 0-2 mm of the IBA without losing valuable metals. The remaining sieve line of 2-8 mm is rich in non-ferrous metals and serves as input material for the Non-Ferro upgrade facility.
